I got the garage lights installed last week.
I started on the previous weekend, but I can be slow. There were two shop light fixtures already on the ceiling -- wired to a switch by the garage-to-house door. So I just needed to add more fixtures, and open up one of the existing fixtures and tap into its electrical power.
A better person would have run conduit between each pair of fixtures, but it's far too late for me to get better. So I ran Romex cable between the fixtures. Romex cable, for anyone who isn't aware, is the stuff most houses are wired with -- in the walls. It has big thick wires surrounded by bigger, thicker casings of some kind of very tough plastic insulation.
Stripping the insulation back from the ends of the Romex cable was the hard part. That stuff is tough (on purpose, I suppose). We could do brain surgery out there -- there's that much light. Who needs medical training when you can see SO WELL? Nobody.
The new fixtures required some assembly, providing me the opportunity to slice most of my right hand off at about the "heel." Fortunately, I had already received the boat kit, so I mixed up some epoxy and glued the flap back on. I have wrapped it up in 25 yards of gauze and will check it next week. So far it only throbs on the weekends. And on Mondays.
I am pretty sure Romex is a copyrighted brand name. Any minute now I am going to learn how to insert special characters in blog posts.
I like it! I should be blogging/building too...

I love this. Just the idea of you and ole Alfie having a good chat over those stairs is entertainment enough for me. And I love seeing the photograph. They are just so beautiful every time
